WET YOUR WHISTLE
With the weather warming up (a sunny 27 degrees here in Hong Kong today) and our hydration status becomes more prevalent, now seems like a good time to discuss water. Keeping hydrated is the obvious benefit of this natural resource, so I thought I’d take a look at some of the less obvious benefits to help get you gulping…
Get the glow – year round glowing skin is the result of good water intake. The intake of water, on a regular basis, will help flush toxins and minimize pimples and blocked pores.
Muscle Fuel – When we sweating in the gym, our muscles are sweating, and losing water! If our muscles don't have enough water, they will become fatigued. So give them that extra boost by chugging down some fluid.
Keep it moving – For the smooth exit of all matter downstairs, keep up the water intake!
Fight the fatigue – One of the most common symptoms of dehydration is tiredness. So next time you are feeling that afternoon slump, ditch the coffee and grab a glass of water!
For the figure – Numerous studies link water consumption and losing a few KGs. Water fills up the stomach, helping you to feel full and less likely to overcome on the calories!
Get smart – the evidence here isn’t confirmed, however there was a study that came out of the UK linking better grades to students who had a water bottle with them in exams. It's worth a try!
How do you know if you are getting enough water in? There is no exact figure as to how much water you should be taking in each day. Levels are dependent on age, weight, weather and activity level. A good indicator of your hydration levels can be found in the toilet… A clear, water like urine is a good indicator that you are hydrated, so aim for that!
